I'm Debborah Collins, and this is my story.
When I applied for the position at Humana in March of 2016, my goal was to increase my current income and build a savings for retirement. The previous job I held for over 12 years didn't offer a 401(k), and didn't pay well enough for me to save money. I had less than 10 years before retirement and the thought of that scared me.
I'm delighted to be working at Humana, as my immediate goals were met. Besides the increase in my annual income, I have a 401(k) and I am saving for my retirement. Now, I have peace of mind knowing that I have the money to live on, and with Humana's contribution match it's growing faster than I could have managed on my own. Plus with Charles Schwab's assistance, my money is really working for me.
When my job was switched to work at home, it gave me many blessings. By working at home, I have two to three hours added to my day available to spend on my family instead of sitting in traffic. I've reduced the risk of getting into a car accident commuting to and from work, I'm saving money on gas, and the wear and tear on my vehicle.
In September of 2017, my mother was having many health problems, and it was obvious she could no longer live on her own. She is a widow, and I'm her only living family member. Thanks to Humana, as a work at home associate, I am able to provide caregiving to my elderly mother. I'm thankful for our caregiver leave benefit as well because I know that there will be a time that I'll need to use it. EAP has lent a helping hand in so many ways.
Well-being time is another wonderful benefit. It’s so helpful to have that little extra time to take care of myself, or my mom. It's a bonus. I'm not losing pay, or using my PTO for those extra helpful minutes.
Yes, Humana is concerned with my physical health, but it's clear my financial and emotional well-being are priorities too. I really am in a better place now, and I'm not scared of my future.
